Meet the Researcher

Shayce Johnston, LMHC

Shayce Johnston is a doctoral candidate in Counseling and Counselor Education at the University of Florida, with an expected graduation in December 2025. She previously earned her Education Specialist and Master of Education degrees in Marriage and Family Counseling (2020) and her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (2017) at UF. A Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida and Certified Pet Loss and Bereavement Specialist (APLB), she has advanced training in trauma, EMDR, grief, and occupational well-being. Through her private practice, Make Sense Therapy and Consulting, she provides support for individuals, families, and organizations. Building on a lifelong involvement in equestrian communities, her doctoral research focuses on the understudied mental health experiences of jockeys and exercise riders in the U.S. racing industry. She is committed to continuing work that fosters resilience and systemic change across equestrian and animal-centered industries.
